In collaboration with Future Creators and Littlehampton Museum, in a free-flow workshop environment, Arun District youth were able to experiment with props, dress and pose, all in Littlehampton’s very own Town Council Millennium Chamber. Here, hangs a portrait of Gwendolen, Duchess of Norfolk, a portrait that holds significant local heritage. Created by local artist Maurice Randall, the piece was presented to the Duke and Duchess of Norfolk on the occasion of their marriage in 1904. In 1936, Randall gifted a pastel version of the portrait to the people of Littlehampton, this version has remained on display in the millennium chamber for the last 90 years. Directing this creative space was an absolute joy. Here, young people were able to take ownership over a prominent part of the town’s history and legacy, as well as celebrating their own archival contributions to this history.
